National College of Dance

The National College of Dance’s full time training provides students with a springboard into the world of professional dance. Through the  Nationally acreddited ASQA VET courses students gain the knowledge and skills that will support their career in the dance industry, including body conditioning, injury prevention, music & stagecraft, and performance, as well as career planning and preparation. Students also have the opportunity to undertake individual electives, including Advanced I, Advanced II and the Solo Seal Award (RAD). Accommodation for up to 10 full-time students is available in the College’s fully self-contained boarding complex. Entry into National College of Dance courses is by audition.

Certificate IV students focuse on further developing their dance technique. They learn to perform effectively as part of a larger team and begin partnering work, while developing skills in individual performance.

CUA50111 Diploma of Dance (Elite Performance)

During the Diploma of Dance (Elite Performance), students prepare for the transition into a professional career in the dance industry. There is a strong focus on the development of the individual dancer, with students refining their dance technique and performance, while developing skills that will assist in planning their professional career. This includes preparing professional portfolios and preparing for and attending auditions.

Students have the opportunity to take up a short term secondment with a variety of dance companies. Recent secondments have included Sydney Dance Company, the Australian Ballet, Australian Dance Theatre, Melbourne Ballet Company, Dance North, the Queensland Ballet, Mod Dance Company and Expressions Dance Company.  Students also benefit from the close ties with Australian and international dance companies that have been formed by the  Artistic Director, Brett Morgan, Head of Diploma, Alfred Taahi and founder, Marie Walton-Mahon.
